Here you have the option of calculating the required cross-section of copper connection cables in the single-phase
alternating current network. Normal alternating current consumers
such as single-phase alternating current motors are connected here.
How many amperes for which cross-section at 230V?
From 10 amperes, a cable with 2.5 mm² is recommended.
From 16 amperes, a cable with 2.5 mm² is recommended .
From 32 amperes, a cable with 4 mm² is recommended .
From 50 amps, a cable with 10 mm² is recommended .
From 63 amps, a cable with 16 mm² is recommended.
From 100 amps, a cable with 35 mm² is recommended.
From 125 amps, a cable with 50 mm² is recommended.
Attention: The cable calculator offered here is only a rough aid for estimating the
cross-section!
Here is an example:
A 230 V AC standard motor has a rated current of 25.18 amps, a
cos φ of 0.86, a cable length of 72 m, the voltage drop of the cable is 2%.
What cable cross-section results from these specifications?
A=(2 x I x L x cosφ) / (K x Δu x U)
A=(2 x 25.18 A x 72 m x 0.86) / (56 x 2 % x 230 V)
A=(3118.29) / (257.60)
A=12.105 mm²
The next largest suitable cross-section is 16 mm²!
Units of measurement:
Cross-section A=mm²
Voltage u=Volt [V]
Current I=Ampere [A]
Kappa Copper k=56 [m / Ω x mm²]
Delta U Δu = %
cos φ=none
