3. When should the gearbox oil be changed?
The lubricant should be changed at least every 10,000 operating hours. These intervals are doubled for synthetic oils. Shorter lubricant intervals are necessary under extreme operating conditions, e.g. high humidity, aggressive environments and high temperature fluctuations. It is advisable to combine the lubricant change with a thorough cleaning of the gearbox. The oil should be drained immediately after shutdown while the oil is still warm. In this state, the lubricant is more likely to be mixed with the dirt particles so that the gearbox interior can be cleaned better after draining the old oil. The type of new transmission oil can be found on the transmission type plate and is offered by various manufacturers (see table).
