How the electric motor brake works

spring-applied brakes are predominantly used here; they work according to the closed-circuit principle. This means that the braking effect is generated in the de-energised state by means of an integrated spring assembly. The electrically generated magnetic field attracts the armature disc via an air gap against the spring force and releases the axis of the drive for rotation.

Double spring-applied brakes

Double brakes are used where high safety requirements are placed. These two independently acting spring-applied brakes are ideal for use in lifts and stage technology due to their special noise damping.

DC brakes

The electromechanical spring-applied brake of the K series is a DC brake whose purpose is to stop the rotation of a mechanical shaft.
The main features of the K series brake are:
- Extremely robust structure
- Extremely quiet engagement and operation (< 70 dBA according to Directive 98/37/EEC)
- Economic efficiency thanks to the simple assembly of the brake group
- Good heat dissipation, which takes place via the fan and/or the motor cover, which must be made of cast iron or steel as it also serves as a braking surface
- The coil of the electromagnet is fully bonded with epoxy resin and the mechanical parts are protected by galvanic treatment with galvanisation

Alternating current brakes

The electromechanical spring-applied brake of the AC series is an alternating current brake. The purpose of the brake is to stop the rotation of a mechanical shaft. The correct functioning of the brake can only be guaranteed by following the instructions on the "Dimensional calculations" page.
The main features of the AC series brake are:
- Extremely robust design
- Simple installation of the brake unit
- Quiet operation (< 70 dBA in accordance with Directive 98/37/EEC)
- Good heat dissipation thanks to the die-cast aluminium structure and the electric motor fan
- The coil of the electromagnet is fully bonded with epoxy resin
