Function of torsionally flexible claw couplings

Claw couplings ensure torsional vibration-damping power transmission and absorb shocks caused by unevenly operating power machines. In contrast to flexible couplings, whose intermediate links are subjected to bending stress and therefore wear out more quickly, the flexible teeth (elastomers) are only subjected to compressive stress. This gives the elastomer coupling the advantage of being able to withstand significantly higher loads. The elastomers deform under load and at high speeds. Sufficient expansion space must be provided.
